I was very inspired by a post over at MyMoneyBlog about parent’s readiness for retirement. I have been thinking about this issue ever since I started thinking about my own retirement (I was about 21 years old at the time). I’m not the kind of guy that wants to ask my parents all kinds of questions about their financial situation as I feel it is their own business. I do however sometime worry about their financial plan for the future and whether or not they will be able to enjoy their retirement without having to worry about money.
There are several ways that we can help out our parents if we want to and the route that I am taking is the one where I plan to be financial independent before my 40th birthday and that will be around the time of my parent’s retirement. I don’t plan on retiring at that age but I like to idea of being able to. The freedom that it will provide will also make me capable of taking good care of my parents in case they are going to need my help.
If they don’t then that will just be great because instead of necessities I will be able to shower them with gifts and luxury. That would be much more fun for all of us for sure.
